After just a few days, he was released from prison. The suspicion of arson couldn't be confirmed.
The Great Fire of London destroyed nearly the entire city in 1666. William Lilly had predicted this devastating event 14 years earlier.
What does this story mean for you today? More than you might think.

William Lilly and the Lost Art of Prediction
To this day, William Lilly is considered one of the most significant astrologers in Western astrology. His ability to make precise predictions was legendary.
This stands in stark contrast to how Western astrology is practiced today.
The Paradigm Shift in Western Astrology
Two schools of thought dominate the field today: so-called psychological astrology and humanistic astrology. Both emphasize that predictions are not part of astrology.
A statement widely accepted among Western astrologers.
You won't find William Lilly's brilliant abilities among Western astrologers today. It's no longer about predictions, but rather about indicating tendencies.
A radical paradigm shift.
Jyotisha: Determining Karma Precisely
Vedic astrology is entirely different.
Embedded as an essential component of a comprehensive wisdom tradition, the purpose of Jyotisha (Vedic astrology) is to determine karma. An important aspect of this is the precise prediction of what will unfold at a specific time.
Unlike in William Lilly's era, this reveals one of the decisive differences between Vedic and Western astrology today: In Jyotisha, predictions are an essential component, while Western astrology limits itself to tendencies.
Two Cultural Perspectives on Freedom
The reason for this can be explained culturally.
Western perspective: In a modern, Western-influenced society, individuals see their freedom in the ability to impose their own will. Freedom of will, however, is constrained by clear predictions.
The result: Tendencies are acceptable, but predictions restrict personal freedom.
Eastern perspective: In a traditional, Eastern-influenced society, individuals see their freedom in the ability to act in alignment with the greater order of which they are a part (nature, environment, events).
Clear predictions are the prerequisite for planning and acting within this order. Tendencies, on the other hand, limit one's ability to act.
The Businesswoman from Frankfurt
Years ago, I asked a client, a successful businesswoman, why she had been seeking astrological guidance for decades.
Her answer captured the Eastern perspective perfectly: "How can I plan meaningfully if I don't know what's coming my way?"
Eastern perspective? This client grew up in Frankfurt and now lives in Hamburg!
Informed Will Is True Will
So it's not about East versus West. What matters is this understanding:
Every person acts constantly and continuously. Without pause.
Each of our activities creates effects. When these effects align with the unfolding reality we're part of, we can successfully realize our ambitions.
And more than that: we can influence and even direct what unfolds.
So it's all a matter of will after all? Clear answer: Absolutely.
The only question is whether I can use this will in an informed and strategically sound way, or whether I'm trying to force it arbitrarily from a misguided sense of self.
What Real Freedom of Will Means
Informed and strategic is certainly the more pleasant approach. More pleasant for ourselves and more pleasant for those around us.
But more importantly: this approach is effective and allows our will to perform at its highest level.

Because when equipped with foresight, will is truly free!
This is where what I've called Eastern and Western perspectives come back together: being able to exercise free will is not only the goal, but the highest human good!
Your Strategic Advantage
Do you now understand why Vedic astrology, with its precise predictions, is a strategic advantage for your happiness and success?
Imagine being able to not just know tendencies when making important decisions, but to know specifically when the right moment has come for your ambitions. When you should act – and when you shouldn't.
That's the difference that makes the difference.

I'm curious what you think! Which areas of your life would you like to plan more precisely? Write it in the comments!
P.S.: By the way, karma means "action." Jyotisha doesn't whisper your unchangeable fate into your ear, but rather enables you to act with sovereignty and strategy – precisely when it matters.
